[Latin] The crystalline active principle of aloes, occurring in three varieties differing in chemical composition, viz., Barbaloin derived from Barbadoes aloes, Socaloin (Zanaloin) from Socotrine aloes, and Nataloin from Natal aloes. Barbaloin and socaloin are the a. of the pharmacopoeias. Used like aloes. Dose, 1-2 gr. (gm. 0.06-0.13).
