colonial Governor, died in 1728. He was Lieutenant-Governor of New York in 1688, Governor of Virginia from 1690 to 1692 and from 1699 to 1705, and of Maryland from 1694 to 1699. He commanded at Port Royal in 1710. He was Governor of Nova Scotia from 1712 to 1717 and of South Carolina from 1721 to 1725.
