A French poet (1800-69); born at Paris. After translating from Dante, he published (1831) "Political Satires", notable for vigor and poetic form. But his mind already showed signs of organic disorder, and his "Last Words" (1835) reveal it plainly. He also wrote: "Resignation" (1839); "Studies of Italy" (1835); and many short poems.
