-
An affection of the pituitary membrane, which gives occasion to a disagreeable odour similar to that of a crushed bed-bug; hence the name Punais, by which the French designate one labouring under ozaena. It is, sometimes, owing to caries of the bones; but is, perhaps, most frequently dependent upon syphilitic ulceration of the pituitary membrane, with or without caries of the bones of the nose.
