pseudonym of Ferdinand von Schmid. A Swiss poet; born in Muri, Switzerland, July 22, 1823; died in Bern, March 17, 1888. He was in mercantile life and also in the Austrian diplomatic service for years; but his "Poetic Fragments" (1860) and "Requiem" (1870) have added his name to the list of true poets.
