This word has two acceptations. It means the spectres and images which the imagination presents to the sick, when asleep or awake; and, also, the figure called, also, Mannikin, Manikin, and Manakin, (F.) Mannequin, on which surgeons practice the application of bandages, or the accoucheur the manual part of midwifery,-Phantoma obstetricium. Fantom or Phantom Tumour is one that forms, in the abdomen for example, simulating organic disease, and occasionally exceedingly deceptive.
