E.G. Beck dries a sinus or an abscess cavity with a strip of gauze and injects into the cavity with a syringe a paste made of one part bismuth subnitrate (free from arsenic) and two parts of boiled sterilized vaselin, which has been cooled to 110 F., or less. The method has been used successfully, both in diagnosis with the x-ray and in treatment.
